The Nintendo Labo VR Kit is a really fun entertaining VR experience for the Nintendo Switch. I was a little skeptical at first because everything was cardboard, and I have never used any other cardboard VR sets. Building the goggles and extra controller devices was a lot of fun. It kind of made me feel like a kid again. It definitely takes some patience and careful watching of the videos to fold and connect all of the pieces, but the end results are some rather surprisingly sturdy cardboard devices. I am an adult and I am also a game collector so I am very careful and take extreme care of my things. I am not 100% sure how this would hold up to a kid building these and then using them for extended periods of time (as they are cardboard). If they are anything like my kids it would be destroyed in a couple weeks, because either it got thrown in the closet and something else was piled on top of it or it was on the ground in their room and someone stepped on it, etc. The part about the kids is just my opinion as I know how my kids are, but overall the VR Kit works very well and gives you a different perspective with the Nintendo Switch. Definitely worth trying out.

Simply amazing and I mean it. The VR + blaster is the most fun I have ever had in VR. Nintendo just set the bar with this kit.
**4/24/2019 Update**
I have had around 9 adults and 4 kids try the VR, blaster and camera. They have all been a hit. I know about the age thing for kids but my 2 year old loves the under water camera with out the goggles. A lot of the people that tried the Blaster was a amazed. Most of them experienced VR for the first time. Some of them wouldn’t put it down. Hopefully some makers or Nintendo will create a full plastic blaster. I’m also wondering if Nintendo is going to allow indie developers to create games for VR. Hopefully we will see some first person shooter games using labo VR in the near future.

So, a little background first, my past experiences in VR have been with the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Google Glass. I would say that the quality of the VR in this kit in terms of its execution is somewhere between Google Glass and the Rift, probably just slightly closer to the level of the Rift. Honestly, for the $80 I spent I couldn’t believe how solid the VR was. Fantastic field of view, although as should be expected the worlds you’ll be looking at are pretty low-res and blurry in the distance. Having said that, it really didn’t bother or distract me during any of the games/demos. It was all super immersive, in no small part because of the Toy-con packaged in the kit. Building the Toy-con was a lot of fun, if time-consuming. I can’t say enough how cool it is to fly through the air in VR and actually feel gusts of wind hit you in the face as you accelerate. Whether you have a child who’s interested in technology and building things (the lessons contained within the software are great for the curious mind) or you’re just an adult who likes putting things together and would like your own mini-VR arcade, this is really a great package.

My daughter (10) absolutely loves this. She got her first LABO kit about a month ago and spent tons of time creating the kits and using them. We were all impressed with the quality and her ability to follow directions and concentrate on the project. This one, which we preordered, did not disappoint. This one box contains hours of projects for her to complete. The combination of video game and hands-on creativity is genius. Great product!

I bought this kit for my son. This kit is far better than we expected. Because it uses Switch, the lenses and body are larger than other cheap kits such as google cardboard, and it is very easy for glasses user to see VR. Games are fun too. We can’t wait Zelda. If you don’t have a Nintendo Switch, buy one with this kit.

Fácil de armar, juegos sencillos pero entretenidos, la resolución es mucho mejor que la del playstation vr y marea menos.

We have every Labo set. They are frankly brilliant. Hours of entertainment for my son putting them together (which is done with instructions on the console) then lots of fun playing the associated games. He likes the VR kit the most (unsurprisingly). The cardboard is amazingly resilient considering I have two boys 6 and 9 who play with it. You can use the VR gun in a few different Nintendo games like Zelda BOTW too. It’s also great knowing that once they are tired of the games the “controllers” are easily recycled.

This was my favorite of all the Labo Kits. On first glance you would think the cardboard is a shell for the Switch controllers but they have their own working parts that give them a tactile feel that you won’t find using controllers like on the Rift or PSVR.
The Blaster requires that you pump the barrel and then a mechanism of cardboard and rubber bands locks into place like you loaded the weapon. Once you push the fire button, the mechanism releases with a satisfying pop.
The bird is another interesting creation. It looks ridiculous but truly adds to the immersion of the included game. It’s a short but memorable experience. You play a bird flying around collecting other birds to fly along side you. You hold the Bird Toycon to your face and push it down to make the virtual bird flap its wings to fly. That part I was expecting. The part that caught me off guard was the wings on the physical toy flap along as you play. This causes a small fan of air to blow in your face to further add to the feeling of flight.
The downside to the Labo VR kit is that the screen can get blurry, especially anything off in the distance. The field of view is limited.
The games, although short are really fun and accessible, and that more than makes up for the flaws.

I have purchased and own every labo that has been released so far and the Labo VR set is the easiest to assemble and the most fun to play. My 11 year old daughter loves it. In fact, we find ourselves fighting over getting to play it. I also own the VR for the PS4 and I prefer the labo VR because of its simplicity, its lightweight, its cordless, the variety of games it has right out of the box, the labo creations that you can use with those games, and especially the price. The only downside that I can see is that there are no straps or a headset to hold it on for certain games. Still, with that said I am still very impressed.

I have enjoyed all of the Labo kits, but this one is by far the best. The only critique I would allow is that the resolution is low compared to other VR options, meaning that it can be blurry and jagged, compared to some modern expectations. Though, as the Labo VR kit costs less than 25% of what other VR offerings cost, I think it is a fair trade of.

After spending hours and hours building the toy con crafts and playing with them (don’t get me wrong, it was a lot of fun experiencing VR on the switch for the first time!), the replayability factor is poor. Each of the games are good for maybe a few minutes of play time, but after that it gets quite monotonous and you loose interest in replaying the games. Also, the actual Switch screen is only 720p and when it’s right in front of your eyes you can see the individual pixels, to the point where things get extremely grainy and blurry, and it hurts your eyes. Quite an uncomfortable experience if you decide to play for longer periods of time.
